File Description : Songs of the Redeemed
Brethren Paul Redshaw and Stephen Egginton will share the third of our main studies in a consideration of "Songs of the Redeemed". Brother Stephen has prepared the following introduction for us.
"Songs of praise to God form a very important and integral part of our formal worship to God today, almost every meeting that we hold on a regular basis incorporates a hymn to God.
Indeed from early times singing of praise to God has been a means of expressing ones feelings to Yahweh, as we know David sat and wrote many psalms to be sung to Yahweh with the purpose of praise and worship to the Most High, various paraphrases of which we can find in our hymn books today.
Scripture however also records for our learning another form of "song", a song which appears to have no forethought or planning but which is simply an outpouring of ones emotions to God as an expression of the feelings of the heart in response to circumstances, thus, Moses sung a song to God on seeing his mighty hand destroy the Egyptians, Deborah sang a song to God in response to her victory over Jabin the king of Canaan, Hannah sung with both joy and sadness of heart as she dedicated her only son to the work of the temple. And Mary praised God when she understood the great part she was to play in the purpose of God with mankind.
All of these songs we shall consider during the course of the week which we shall conclude God willing with another song, a song that is still future, a song that will be sung by a multitude of people of which we all hope to be a part, a song that will be sung by immortal voices as they reflect upon what has been done for them and look upon their King in glory and express the feelings of their hearts as they see Gods plan and purpose fulfilled in the earth when the troubled sea of nations as we see them today are at rest as a sea of glass before the throne of the Lamb."
